A common question/idea I hear from my clients is…
Our body KNOWS what it needs to heal, and sometimes slipping into a sleep state while receiving Reiki opens up the energy fields to receive Reiki in a more balanced way that your body needed. You will not “mess up” a session by falling asleep! All of the healing will still be in effect whether you are awake or asleep while receiving Reiki.
A few months ago I had a client make a comment after her first Reiki session. She said…
”Did I just pay for a nap?” I laughed nervously. Of COURSE I hoped that she didn’t just associate a session with me as only sleeping with no other benefits. She scheduled her next session within a few weeks saying she could feel a shift in her energy and life after receiving Reiki, and that she knew for sure that she didn’t pay for just a nap, that it was so much more than she realized. She didn’t know what to expect during a session and was so relaxed that she fell asleep.
It makes sense that she didn’t realize initially that we had shifted her energy fields in powerful, healing ways while she was unconscious and peacefully receiving Reiki on my table. My clients who remain awake during their sessions often report more than just feeling relaxed, they frequently mention also feeling a variety of sensations like warmth from my hands, tingling, cooling, waves of energy, clarity, positive emotional releases, and many other unique feelings. While sleeping, even without noticing these sensations, you are still receiving all of the healing that is emanating for the highest and greatest good of your body and being.
“But what if I only sense feeling relaxed and don’t feel these other sensations?”
Relaxation in this fast paced stress filled world is very valuable. Simply by allowing ourselves to relax, we turn off the stress hormones that our bodies are consistently pumping into our blood stream, while creating the space for our body to put its energy towards healing what it WANTS to heal, including normal healing activities that often don’t get enough attention like healthy digestion and cell replacement. Regardless of the specific sensations you are feeling, you are still receiving all of the benefits of the healing vibration called Reiki. If you are not used to feeling relaxed (except for right before falling asleep), you may associate feeling relaxed with feeling sleepy… and that’s okay! The more you practice feeling relaxed, the more you can develop your understanding and vocabulary around the different relaxation sensations you can feel. Keep practicing!
I’m always honored if my client falls asleep on the table during a session. It means they are relaxed and comfortable enough to allow me to work on their energy fields while they are in a healing state of not being conscious in the room. Oh no…..BUT….BUT….
BUT WHAT IF I SNORE?? How EMBARRASSING!
…Not really! I remain neutral during sessions to be able to tap further into flowing Reiki through me and receiving Divine Guidance. So that means if you snore…I won’t care! It simply means to me you are very very relaxed and in a relaxed sleep state. Go for it!
